Marietta College international student Madhuram Shah is a junior this year, majoring in Petroleum Engineering; surprisingly she has already experienced interviews with three American companies, and has done an internship over the summer. She said that the Career Center has helped her a great amount.

The Career Center of Marietta College has been doing a good job preparing Marietta students for their future goals by providing professionalized advice throughout the year.

The department offers all Marietta students a guideline to go through the preparation process, including preparing resumes, organizing documents, and setting up imitation interviews to have students practice before the real interviews.

Bill Fournier, the associate director and internship coordinator of the Career Center, described their jobs as to “ develop a road map,” that the Career Center is offering a customized service that is based on student needs.

The misconception among Marietta students is that the Petroleum Engineering department receives the most attention. Most students from other departments do not have enough opportunities to obtain job offers. In this matter, Fournier clarified that the Petroleum Engineering department is focusing on starting students onto the right track freshman year, whereas this phenomenon is not emphasized in other departments. He further indicated that what would make their job more efficient is to make students think ahead, because the Career Center wants to help students to build a process to achieve their goals.

The sooner the better since the process might take long. To get help the Career Center employees pride themselves on being very accessible. Students can schedule appointments at the office in upper Gilman, right next to the bookstore, or email them at cc@marietta.edu.
