As a side note, I added more concerts from House of Blues and Lifestyles Community Pavilion last night, so check out the Regional Concert Guide for concerts further out than what’s shown here.

Kind of a slow week.  NOT.  Billy Joel and Elton John take over Columbus tonight, and some country singer by the name of Taylor Swift drops by the Burgh and give Columbus another great show.  If you’re into rock ‘n roll, Crue Fest comes to Blossom, and Nickelback invades Post-Gazette Pavilion.  Enjoy the list below, and look for House of Blues Cleveland to join the list of venues we track soon!

Bored? Riverfront Roar is This Weekend!

If you’ve checked the Writing on the Mall Calendar page lately, you’d see a lot of upcoming Marietta events.  Including this weekend’s Riverfront Roar.

The Riverfront Roar is a series of high-speed boat races up and down the Ohio River, and takes place on the Levy just like Sternwheeler.  There are plans for plenty of music, food, drinks, and racing, so check out the website for the schedule of a events.  The event is free to attend and takes place all this weekend down at the Levy by the Lafayette Hotel.

Concert Update and Ticket Deal

Well, AT&T finally got the internet working again, and I’m a bit behind on some things.

Like Live Nation making today a No-Fee sale day.  $30 gets you a lawn seat, drink, and hot dog for any show this summer at Blossom Music Center, Nautica Pavilion, Time Warner Cable Amphitheater, and Post-Gazette Pavilion (Links will take you to the list of concerts without service fees at each venue).  It’s not every concert, but it’s a nice selection of cheap seats and “free” food, which is about a $10-$12 savings in itself.

But here are all the concerts hitting the area in the next week.  And always remember that if you want to see all of the area’s concerts on one page, head over to the Regional Concert Guide.

Post-Gazette Pavilion – Today — Wednesday, July 8th
Vans Warped Tour

Time Warner Cable Amphitheater – Thursday, July 9th
Vans Warped Tour

Post-Gazette Pavilion – Friday, July 10th
Def Leppard with Poison and Cheap Trick

Blossom Music Center – Friday, July 10th
Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lifestyles Community Pavilion – Saturday, July 11th
Collective Soul with Gavin Degraw

Nationwide Arena – Tuesday, July 14th
Billy Joel and Elton John

Concert Series Begins On Campus

Apparently the college has decided to hold a concert series in the newly-christened Kremer Amphitheater this summer.  Here’s the scoop directly from college.

June 29, 2009 — Marietta College kicks off the Kremer Amphitheatre Concert Series on Wednesday with a two-hour concert by the talented rhythm and blues artist Dav “Fathead” Davis.

“We invite the students, staff, faculty, their families and the Marietta community to this free outdoor concert in our new amphitheatre,” said David Travis, Director of Student Activities & Greek Life at Marietta College. “We had Dav ’Fathead’ Davis perform for our Coffee House Series during the academic year and he was probably the best musician I’ve heard in years.”

The Offices of Residence Life and Student Activities & Greek Life sponsor the Kremer Amphitheatre Concert Series.

Davis, who sings and plays the electric piano, will be accompanied by his band. The seasoned performer has been entertaining for more than three decades.

The concert will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Kremer Amphitheatre, which is located outside of the new Legacy Library. Travis said guests can bring blankets on which to sit and free sodas will be available to concert goers.
The second installment of the series features a performance by the Fleetwood Mac tribute band, Enchanted. That concert is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 29.

“We hope to draw enough of a crowd to these two concerts so we can expand the series next year to four performances,” Travis said.

Enchanted entertains throughout Ohio by playing a wide range of bands and singers from Evanescence to The Doobie Brothers and Pink to Journey. They are most known for their Fleetwood Mac tributes.

“Enchanted is also a very talented group of musicians and they really capture the sound of Fleetwood Mac,” Travis said.

In case of inclement weather for either performance, the concert venue will be changed to the Gathering Place, which is located on Marietta College’s campus at the corner of Butler and Seventh streets.

It looks interesting, but it remains to be seen if the community will come, since the student body isn’t really around right now.  But a good idea none-the-less.  I’d like to see more things like this in the early Fall and late Spring.

Julianne Hough Discounted Tix On Sale Through May 22nd

If you are a student, staff, or faculty member of Marietta College, time is running out for you to pick up your discounted tickets. $19 tickets are available through May 22nd in the Auxiliary Services office (McDonough Room 204). Supposedly it will be a good show, but I’m not a big country fan, so I would not know. The concert is June 1st in the Dyson-Baudo Recreation Center.

Justice Coming to Marietta

Justice, a music duo from France, is coming to Marietta.  I don’t know much about them, other than I do have one song from them, called “D.A.N.C.E.”  It’s pretty good.  They’re a club group, so be ready to dance if you go.

It’s Saturday night, starting at 8 PM.  The night is co-sponsored by CUB and Charles Sumner Harrison Organization.
