Poor Economy Claims Another Victim: Bar-B-Cutie
Sadly, another local restaurant will close after this week.
The Bar-B-Cutie on Pike St., which replaced an empty RAX, will close on November 7th. Â The notification went out via Twitter, and linked to this page.
Bar-B-Cutie was a great place to get some good food. Â Their prices were alright and the people were friendly. Â They will be missed.

The Brewery is Dead. Long Live The Brewery
Well, October 31st has come and past. Â And the Marietta Brewing Company is still open, and selling their usual wares.
From what I’m hearing, their liquor license was renewed again, through the end of the year.
I’m not going to complain, nor should anyone. Â Please enjoy responsibly.

The Best and Worst of Gilman
EDITOR’S NOTE:  Michael Cute is a guest writer for Writing on the Mall.  He is involved with the Media Writing Two class at Marietta College, which has been submitting articles to us.  His article is the first of many that you will see hit the site.  If you would like to see more like this, just let us know at patrick_h at writingonthemall dot net.
Its 5 o’clock on a Sunday and most of Marietta College campus shuffles into Gilman to grab some dinner.
The plates at Gilman always seem to fly off the shelves. It’s been a long tradition for students to complain about the food in the dining hall. The students may complain about the food but there rarely is an empty table available and plates always seem to disappear.
What has Gilman done right? What are the top Gilman meals according to Marietta College students? A survey was taken by Marietta College students to see what their favorite meals were.

In Marietta Today, so No New News
Just a quick little mention that I will be in Marietta all day today, so if there is any news that pops up, you probably won’t see it here until at least tomorrow. Â I’ll be enjoying the new Del Mar taco and burrito place, and taking lots of pictures of campus for the site. Â And working at some point. Â Stay tuned.

AP: Students Culinary Tastes on the Rise
The Associated Press did a great article discussing how campus dining has evolved in recent years as tastes change and grow.
Mostly, that students want more options and are cooking in their rooms more often. Â In the article, it mentions Ohio Wesleyan University, who uses Chartwells for food services like Marietta. Â Ohio Wesleyan’s food options include take-away heat-and-eat meals and a convenience store that students can buy ingredients for their own meals from. Read more…

Meal Plan Prices Movin' On Up
While meal plan prices are movin’ on up, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ve finally gotten a piece of that pie.
If you noticed on your statements for the Fall semester, the price of a traditional meal plan has gone up nearly $80, from $1,760 to $1,823. Â Very miniscule compared to the overall price increase that the students saw for the full price of attending Marietta. Â But this is a reasonable price increase due to inflation and the fact that there is now a fourth eatery on campus. Â More staffing and greater food choices are worth the $80 a semester.
The increase also affects Unlimited and Super 3 plans, which are actually the best values on campus if you use them all (according to the math done below). Â While the Unlimited plan is very restrictive (only available to use at Gilman Dining Hall, but 300 declining balance points to use at Izzy’s, Gilman Express, or Chlapaty Cafe), it is the best value on campus (if you ate there 3 times a day all week). Â The Super 3 is a great idea for those that have odd schedules, since you can eat at any time throughout the day at any location, and is the second cheapest per meal plan on campus. Â Both plans are $1,920, up from $1,845.
For those of you interested, here are all the numbers broken down:
Which meal plan did you choose? Â Do you use all your meals every week? Â Tell us in the comments.

Monday Monotony-Breaker: Billy Mays Memorial Edition
Here’s a video that’s sure to break up your Monday morning monotony. Â Billy Mays had a radio appearance a couple of months ago, and shot this video with the station for their morning show website. Â Unfortunately, he passed away in his sleep yesterday at the age of 50. Â To remember him and to bring joy to your morning, I present Billy Mays orders from McDonalds.

Brighter Day Restaurant Needs Your Help!
As with most businesses in the United States, times are tough. Â In Marietta, times are even tougher, and that is taking a toll on Brighter Day Restaurant.
Fans of a group on Facebook are asking all those in the Marietta area to visit and bring friends between now and Friday to enjoy a good meal and help save one of Marietta’s local eateries.
Personally, I have not eaten there (and won’t be able to until I can actually eat again), but have heard that I am really missing something special. Â So go check them out over your lunch break with some co-workers, or take your significant other out for dinner.

Mocha Latte Pricing
If you were looking to enjoy the fruits of the new Latte Machine at Chlapaty Cafe, be warned that prices will drain your declining balance faster than anything else on campus. A small is around $3.30, a medium is around $3.70, and a large is around $4.30. Some of their sandwiches are almost as expensive as the large Latte.
They do have three flavors available, Mocha, Caramel, and Vanilla I believe, and the pricing is comparable to Starbucks and such, but it still seems high for our campus. Maybe if I’m able to get past the sticker shock I’ll get one and let you know how the quality is.
