Marcolian Round-Up!
A new school year brings us a new Marcolian…or at least in paper form. Â The Marc website has not been updated to reflect the new stories.
If you’re looking for another helpful student media, the Marcolian is less of a newsy paper (usually runs every other week, but that may be changing) and more of a magazine. Â They cover big campus events, but tell more of the story than just telling you what happened. Â There are more editorials and opportunities for students to speak their mind and get their point across.
Headlines in this week’s Marcolian:
- Matriculation Ceremony takes place tonight
- Marietta College ranked 112th in Nation
- MC Students travel to Central America
- Planetarium community events scheduled for August, September
- Soccer coach expects greatness
- Football team prepares for season of growth
- Local Churches
- Student Discounts
- Fine Arts on Campus
- President welcomes Class of 2013
- Senior gives prospective on summer
- Del Mar’s Baja Grill disappoints
- Freshman offers fresh perspective
- Campus Organizations
- Cable Channel Guide
Writing on the Mall will be posting a few more guides now based off of a few of the Marc articles (Church Guide, Campus Organization Guide), but already has guides featuring the Cable Channel Listing (which was updated today to include digital channels for those with Digital Tuners), Area Concert Guide, and more.
And as a side note, Del Mar’s is really tasty (in my opinion) so I disagree with the Op/Ed saying that it lacks flavor and experience. Â They just opened, they’re still training and hiring. Â Cut them some slack. Â And I think its tasty and flavorful. Â But make your own opinion.
Pick up a copy of the Marcolian today to read all of the articles they have this week.

The Moose Lodge is No More
Some of you may have heard last Spring that the College had purchased the Moose Lodge. Â Immediately the possibilities spun in everybody’s head as to what the college may be doing with the building. Â Would it be a new Gathering Place? Â Be used for the art department? Â Be torn down and used for a new dorm? Â A new dining hall?
Well, as it turns out, none of that. Â The Physician’s Assistant program had the building gutted and re-configured in what was the least known about campus construction. Â While crews raced to finish the Legacy Library and the Planetarium, demolition and construction began within the Moose Lodge.
The new building allows the college to expand the program and allow more students. Â 30 students were accepted this fall, and 36 more will be admitted to the program next fall. Â The program started in 2002 with 15 students, and could only accept 22 students at most.
For more information about the Moose Lodge and its new use, check out the article at the Marietta Times.

April Fool's Hits Marcolian…A Day Late
The writers for the Marcolian decided to have some April Fool’s Day fun for this week’s edition. Â The paper copy came out on Thursday.
Subjects of the pranks are the new Planetarium and the protected structure by Dyson-Baudo Rec Center.
In the first story, the Planterarium will be torn down, as it’s been a “Complete utter mistake.”
The second story says that students are stuck waiting for a Marietta College bus that will never arrive.
They’re alright reads. Â Better than the college PR that currently fills the Marcolian (for the most part) now.

Top 10: MC Stories of 2008
Looks like it’s time for the college’s PR department to decide what the top 10 stories of 2008 were. They just issued their annual release, which makes for a good read. To see my commentary on the list, keep reading after the jump. Read more…
