Welcome Back Update!

Welcome back to Marietta College, everybody. Should be a fun Spring semester from the sounds of things so far.

Just have a few quick updates…

For those of you looking for your breakfast fix at Gilman Express, nevermore. Or at least for now.

Signs posted at Gilman Express noted a new opening time of 10:30 AM. Students were encouraged to go to Chlapaty Cafe (asked more students, nobody is sure how to pronounce it still…great). So it looks like your breakfast options are Chlapaty Cafe or Gilman.   Chlapaty Cafe is using the Meal Exchange program, so users of the meal plan can go there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, word to the wise…Chlapaty Cafe is supposedly Declining Balance only. If true, might be an early blow to students looking to enjoy the Cafe but are on 19 meal a week plans (which only include $35 in Declining Balance. I will try to check it out later today.

Maybe Chartwells is trying to encourage students to pay the extra $85 for the Unlimited Gilman plan, which allows students to visit Gilman as many times as they ever care to during a semester, and gives them $300 in Declining Balance Points for all other locations.

Havn’t confirmed it yet, but from the sounds of it, Gilman Express will only be open from 10:30 AM to 1 PM. But we’ll see once Chartwell’s updates its times.

Seattle's Best means Coffee, not Coffee Shop

I know everybody is starting to get antsy about getting back to campus and finally getting to use the Legacy Library.  But I have some interesting news to report about the feature that most of us have been waiting to enjoy:  the cafe.

According to one of the student workers helping move books into the library (before they had to cut them all before their original last day or work), the supposed Seattle’s Best Coffee Shop is not so.  In reality, Seattle’s Best is the coffee being served, but out of the traditional coffee servers that are familiar to students from Izzy’s, Gilman, and Gilman Express.

Sub Generation Update

The new sub shop that has replaced Sandella’s is decently good, especially considering how much time they had to change over to the new menu (which apparently was this weekend).  The only thing that kills it is how much time it takes.  Once they have the new menu down their assembly time should improve greatly.

The low-down on Sub Generation is this:  There is a list of several subs you can order, or you can choose to order as you wish.  You can choose from several breads, meats, veggies (including bean sprouts if that floats your boat), and dressings.  Subs can be toasted if you wish, which makes me feel like we just opened up a glorified Subway.

It’s tasty, and I encourage people to try it out.  I would just suggest going at off-peak times to get it (unless you mind waiting a while).
