Blessid Union of Souls draws 300+ to G-Spot

Last night, 90s pop band Blessid Union of Souls played for a crowd of 317 people at the Gathering Place.

The CUB sponsored event started with MC’s own Nate DiRuzza as the opening act. Around 9pm, Blessid got the crowd going with Queens “Bohemian Rhapsody”

In their 80 minute set they played 90s favorites such as “Light in your eyes”, “I wanna be there”, “I believe” and their most memorable “Hey Leonardo (She likes me for me)”

For the members of CUB, the preparation for the famed band began at 8am. The Gathering Place had to be transformed from college hang out spot to backstage dressing room.

Everyone’s hard work paid off in the end and produced a great show and start to the year for CUB music.

Welcome Back Bash Starts Out Strong.

In true MC fashion, the first week of classes is celebrated by the annual Welcome Back Bash.

The fun-filled weekend started Thursday with the CUB sponsored Club MC on the mall. Club MC is a chance for the more than 70 campus organizations to show what they have to offer to the new freshmen.

The event was a great success with freshmen and upperclassmen both signing up for different clubs.

The night was closed with the first comedian of the school year, Richie Holiday. Also sponsored by CUB, the comedian was the first to perform in the new amphitheatre, drawing a large crowd to the grassy lawn.

On Friday WBB continued with another annual event, the Icebreaker Dance, put on by The Charles Sumner Harrison Organization. The dance was held in the G-Spot and maintained a large crowd the entire night.

The Icebreaker is a great way for new and old students to become aquainted and let loose after the first grueling week of classes.

Bringing WBB to a close will be 90s pop band Blessid Union of Souls. This is yet another CUB sponsored event. The band is famous for songs such as “I Believe”, “Hey Leonardo (She likes me for me) and “Light in your eyes.”

Blessid Union will be the first larger scale musical act the college has seen in many years.

They will be performing Saturday August 29 at 8pm in the Gathering Place.

Welcome Back Bash always draws in large crowds, this year has been no different, and next year will only get better.

CUB Events Added, Concerts Updated

CUB has graciously given us a heads up on the first half of their Fall programming line-up.

The biggest name of all the names is Blessid Union of Souls, which you may remember from their 90′s hits “I Believe” and “Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me for Me)”.  The band is coming off of a 5 year hiatus and has moved in a new direction, but should still be a big hit for the campus crowd.

The usual Cedar Point trip is September 19th.

Also, I have updated the Concert listing page, so check out all those concerts that happen right before returning to campus.  Classes start August 24th.  (P.S. – there is a countdown clock here on the left side of the page).

Doo Dah Day Activities Announced!

Doo Dah Day is fast approaching.  As in Saturday.  IFC has Mud Volleyball at 10 AM.  And CUB’s plans start at noon.  Interested in seeing everything that’s happening on campus?  Here’s the list.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) Mud Volleyball starts at 10 AM.  No more teams are being accepted, but there will be plenty of donuts, coffee, rootbeer, and music for all to enjoy.

CUB has moved from Mill’s Parking Lot to DU field for this year’s activities.  They’ll be offering Human Bowling, Jousting, Velcro Walls, Obstacle Courses, and a Slip’n Slide.  Jesty Beatz makes a return, performing at 12:45 PM, and FLOREZ will be playing at 2:30 PM.

CUB Announces Spring Trips

Looking for college sponsored trips around the state of Ohio?  have no fear, CUB has you covered.

The College Union Board has decided to send students to three locations throughout the semester.  Sadly, none of them appear to be the rumored sky diving trip.

On March 28th, CUB continues a tradition of promoting shop-a-holic-ism with a return trip to Easton Shopping Center in Columbus.  Tickets are $5 and will go on sale March 22nd.  The $5 gets you on a bus to Easton, and allows you the entertainment of a movie.  Exact times and movie name has not been released yet.  It’s a good chance to go to a great shopping center and check out some cool places, like the Apple Store.

On April 4th, the CUBbies will be going to the Columbus Zoo.  There is no price announced quite yet, but tickets are to go on sale March 29th.

On April 25th, its time to play baseball.  Well, kinda.  CUB will be taking MC students to the Cleveland Indians game against the Minnesota Twins.  No price has been announced yet, and no ticket sale date was mentioned either.

Justice Coming to Marietta

Justice, a music duo from France, is coming to Marietta.  I don’t know much about them, other than I do have one song from them, called “D.A.N.C.E.”  It’s pretty good.  They’re a club group, so be ready to dance if you go.

It’s Saturday night, starting at 8 PM.  The night is co-sponsored by CUB and Charles Sumner Harrison Organization.

Super Bowl Party Time

I hate the Steelers (yes, I am a Browns fan, get over it).

But, I can’t wait to go watch the Cardinals whoop on the Steelers (hopefully) tonight.  And I’ll be doing it with all the other people heading over to the Gathering Place tonight.

IFC and CUB are co-sponsoring a Super Bowl Party at the G-Spot starting at 6 PM.  We’ll have about 300 wings there, along with tons of pizza, and of course, unlimited drinks of the non-alcoholic type.  The game will be on all the TV’s (including the giant screen), and all of the usual G-Spot activities will be available for use (including pool, foosball, and the new arcade machines that they installed).  The fraternities will be bringing their cornhole boards and will have tables set up to inform male students about the positives of fraternal life at Marietta College.  CUB will be bringing prizes to raffle off (mostly Steelers stuff, but I’m sure that most people in the area won’t mind that).

So, 6 PM tonight at the Gathering Place…be there or be square!
