Bookstore Now Lists Fall Book Lists
Check out the Marietta College online book lists now so that you can shop around and get the best price possible.
Remember to check Half.com, Amazon.com, and Textbooks.com. Â If you’re buying directly from the Marietta College Bookstore, you are probably paying much more than you need to.
Check out this story I wrote before the Spring semester to see the exact savings compared to Half and Amazon and learn other tips.
Textbooks.com has provided these tips as well (FULL DISCLOSURE: I was sent these tips by Textbooks.com in a message sent to blogs like Writing on the Mall. Â I am not being compensated for posting these tips):
There is no doubt about it – textbook prices suck! Textbooks.com, the site with the cheapest prices on the planet’s biggest selection of hand-inspected used textbooks, is committed to keeping more cash in the pockets of students than any other website. JT Thome, Chief Operating Officer of Textbooks.com shares the following tips to help students save when shopping for textbooks.
- The biggest mistake that many students make when purchasing their textbooks is that they wait too long. The secret to reducing the cost of a student’s textbooks is to shop early when the used books are plentiful. Used books save money – big money, especially when the used books are bought online on sites like Textbooks.com.
- The second biggest mistake that some students make is by waiting too long to sell their books back at the end of the semester. By selling their books back after their final exams, the students will get the most for their money.
- Selling their books back online will pay them even more. Specifically, Textbooks.com automatically pays students a bonus of 10% for those books bought back online that were originally purchased from Textbooks.com. And, for the top best-selling textbooks, Textbooks.com actually guarantees to the student when they purchase their books that they will receive 50% of the new book selling price when they sell them back at the end of the term. This is true whether the student bought the books new or used. These titles are listed on the Textbooks.com website as “Guaranteed Cash Back†titles.
- When buying used books online the discounts can range anywhere from 30% to 90% off the new book price from the publisher. And for those students that want to buy new books, they can find discounts from 15% to 30% off.
- When making their purchase, students should be sure to double-check the ISBN number to make sure they are purchasing the correct edition. Also, make sure not to buy an international edition. Websites like Textbooks.com never sell international editions, and any old editions are always very clearly marked.
- Again, shop early. As soon as students have their courses selected and have received their syllabus from the faculty member, it’s time to buy their textbooks.
As a note, as well, I have had good luck with International editions of books, so as long as they are printed in English, get them if they are cheap and available.

NCAA Division 3 Track And Field Championships Start Today
After a weekend loss for the Pioneers in the Division 3 Baseball Mideast Regional, Marietta College campus staff and volunteers turned to their own Division 3 Championship weekend for success in a different way.
Starting today, Marietta College hosts the NCAA Division 3 Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Championships at Don Drumm Stadium. The event runs through Saturday, the 23rd.
Nearly 700 student athletes, their athletic trainers, coaches, and families from around the nation have descended on Marietta, which is hosting its first major Division 3 Championship since hosting the D3 Baseball Championships from 1976 to 1987 (1976 was the first year that Division 3 Baseball existed).
There are several side events planned to go along with the Championships, including events at Don Drumm and on Front Street. Tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 9 PM, restaurants along Front Street will be offering discounts and deals for those wearing Track Championship credentials or wristbands. So fans that buy tickets can also enjoy the same discounts that the student-athletes and coaches get. No list was announced, but a list will be available at the information booths at both Don Drumm and Hermann Fine Arts Center.
On Friday night, a children’s olympics will be held at Don Drumm Stadium from 7 to 9:30 PM. Kids aged 6 to 13 can compete in various olympic events that have been altered to work a bit better for the young ones. The big kicker for the night is a fireworks show around 9:15 PM. The event is being organized by the Marietta College Track & Field Event Management class and is free for the Marietta community, student-athletes, volunteers, coaches, and all others to attend.
For Marietta, the focus is on its two athletes, Jayshon Irvin (Freshman, 100m dash), and Zach Gay (Junior, High Jump). Good luck gentlemen, hopefully you can bring back the hardware. Or I should say, carry it over to the display case in Dyson.

Enterprise Deal for MC Students UPDATED
The Marietta College Announcement Page just popped up an interesting tidbit that is a nice little deal for students without a car down here.
MC students can get 50% off either a five day rental (from Wednesday to Monday) or a three day rental (from Friday to Monday) from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. That means you’re looking at about $125 for the five day rental (if you are going for the Chevy Aveo in Economy Class), or $75 for the three day rental (same vehicle). $5 more and you can be cruising around in a Chevy Cobalt or Toyota Carolla (intermediate), or $15 more and you’re in a Chevy Malibu (standard).
Freshman and most Sophomores need not apply, as you must be 21 or older to be able to rent a car. If you’re a student over the age of 25, you can take off the $25 fee charged to younger drivers. Seems kinda backwards since most of the people that could use this program are Freshman, since they are still suffering from the new restrictions instated this year that limit freshman parking to those that meet one or more of certain criteria.
UPDATE!!!
The 50% off deal is good for everybody from Friday to Monday. Not just students at MC. Anybody, anywhere can take advantage of that.
The deal that applies to students is the 50% off a rental from Wednesday to Monday. I can confirm that this deal is good specifically for Marietta College students. However, your milage may vary at other institutions. Call your local Enterprise Rent-A-Car to find out if you can take advantage of the deal too.
Students wishing to take advantage of the extended deal here in the Marietta Area should contact the local Enterprise Rent-A-Car, because the deal is not available online.
