Riverfront Roar Draws Crowds to Downtown Shops
Last weekend hundreds of people showed up for the Riverfront Roar.
Set up started early Friday afternoon and the event was in full swing by dinnertime. Front Street and most of Green Street were close for the weekend due to the event.
While the boat races did not get started until Saturday, the second Artists and Merchants walk of the summer kept spectators busy. The A & M walk is where most of the stores on Putnam and Front Streets stay open until nine o’clock (which is incredible, because in Marietta nothing stays open past five o’clock). They also offer free samples and giveaways.
Live music, magicians, and free food brought in plenty of business for the downtown stores. After the stores close and the crowds filed out, Madagascar 2 was shown outside in front of the Armory.
While the Riverfront Roar only comes around once a year, the Artists & Merchants walk is more frequent. The next one will be the second weekend in August, when some students will be returning for school. So if there is a store you have never been in, the A & M walk is the perfect time to look around.

Marietta Riverfront Roar Preview
If you’re looking for some fun this summer, check out the annual Riverfront Roar in Marietta. Think Sternwheeler Festival, but with high-octane racing boats racing on the Ohio River.
Plenty of bands and local talent will be performing throughout the weekend, and there should be plenty of concession shops open with various food option to tantalize your taste buds.
The Riverfront Roar will be back in Marietta July 10th through 12th, and promises to bring more excitement than before as it will host the F2 and F3 championships for the first time. In fact, Marietta won the league’s favorite site award from the teams and sponsors.
I’ll post more info about the weekend as it becomes available.
