Cheap Sports For All Sorts
As prices rise for all the fun things in life, sometimes it’s nice to have a Student ID. And this post highlights several of those great opportunities. Major teams in Ohio and Pennsylvania are advertising great pricing on tickets to students. We’ll highlight some of them today.
Browns Excursion for Marietta College Students
College Union Board is taking a busload of students up to Cleveland Browns Stadium on October 3 for their division match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals. A $20 ticket can be purchased in the Student Activities office in Andrews Hall. The ticket will get you on a charter bus up to the game, a ticket to the game itself, and transportation back to Marietta when the game is complete. Bus leaves at 9 AM on the 3rd.
This is a great opportunity for MC students to go see an NFL game for a very low price. Instead of paying anywhere between $30 and $50 in gas for your car and anywhere between $40 to $60 for a ticket, you are only paying $20. Take advantage while you can. Tickets are going fast.

Filling the Gaps
Its been a week and a half/two weeks since I had to send my laptop in for repairs, so here’s all the news you missed!
- Viva La Revolucion! Â Parking for upperclassmen has been restored to the Gathering Place parking lot. Â All blue parking passes can now park in the lot, along with red passes for freshmen that received them.
- Hooray for the Blue and White! Â The Pioneers defeated Thiel College in the River City Bowl with a score of 20-14. Â Looking ahead, Marietta College plays Wilmington College this Saturday at 6 PM, the season’s only home night game.
- Lambda Chi Alpha held their annual Watermelon Bust. Â 13 teams from various organizations competed in events ranging from watermelon tossing to melon carving. Â The teams raised nearly 500 pounds of food, which will go to the Marietta Community Food Pantry as part of the Lambda Chi chapter’s North American Food Drive effort.
- H1N1 “Swine” Flu may have finally made it to Marietta College. Â There have been a couple reported cases of potential H1N1 infections, but they haven’t been confirmed yet as far as I know. Â More information will be posted later.
- Sternwheeler has come and gone. Â The three day event brought thousands of visitors to the city of Marietta for a fun-filled weekend that culminated in one of the region’s most spectacular firework shows. Â I was once again happy to get myself some Quaker Steak and Lube wings and a Bloomin’ Onion from vendors, and won a t-shirt from the Ohio Lottery.
- Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment began yesterday. Â Events continue through Thursday for IFC and Friday for PHC.

For Those Looking at Sororities at MC
Here is a write-up with the basic need-to-knows for sorority recruitment at Marietta College. Â This is courtesy of Megan McGrath from Panhellenic Council.
For those interested in sorority life on campus, here are the need to know facts:
A sorority (or women’s fraternity) is a social organization in which the members are bonded by common ideals.  Each sorority has its own philanthropy and purpose.
For information on each house you can go to the Marietta College Greek Life website:Â http://greeklife.marietta.edu/index.html and follow the links to the local and national websites for each house.
To get involved in recruitment (the process of joining a sorority) you can get in touch with a Rho Gamma.  A Rho Gamma is a woman from one of the sororities that has disaffiliated from her own chapter until recruitment is over to provide an unbiased source of information and give guidance before & during recruitment and to make the process of recruitment as easy as possible.
Each Rho Gamma is assigned to a freshman dorm.  They will be visiting the dorms each night in the beginning of the school year to get girls interested in recruitment and tell them how to sign up.
Recruitment will begin the 14th of September.
For more information please reference the Marietta College Greek Life website or http://www.thesororitylife.com
More details will be updated closer to Recruitment about signing up and other events that are occurring on campus.
