Writing on the Mall's Top 10 Most Read Stories of 2009
So, we’re doing two Top 10 lists here at Writing on the Mall. Â Here’s the first, which is the Top 10 most read stories of 2009. Â Here’s the list:
#10 – Follow-Up on the Death of Kean Weaver: Kean Weaver was a trustee for the college, who passed away in the Spring of 2009. Â This article was mostly just a link to a story by the Marietta Times.
#9 -UPDATE: MC Student Faces Up To 10 Years for Alleged Stabbing: One of the bigger story lines this Fall was the case of Thomas Robison, who allegedly attempted to rob, then stabbed a Marietta resident. Â He had followed the man from a downtown bar all the way up Pike St. to near where the man lived. Â The man survived, but suffered injuries to his stomach and hand. Â For those looking for an update, the case still hasn’t progressed much since he waived his preliminary hearing in October. Â He faces felony charges with up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
#8 – Marietta College Campus Police Take Heat From Locals: What started out with a series of articles by the Marietta Times led to this article, which strayed off topic severely, and ended up not really going anywhere. Â The Times series had been published as a precursor to Doo Dah Day, in which there are lots of violations and citations handed out. Â Some questioned the need for basically having two police departments in one city. Â The complains never really went anywhere.

UPDATE: Robison Waives Hearing, Awaits Grand Jury Indictment
MC Student Thomas Robison waived his right to a hearing yesterday according to the Marietta Times, which means his case can now be presented to a Grand Jury. Â The Grand Jury can add more charges to the indictment if they deem it necessary, which means an additional charge of felonious assault could added. Â Felonious assault can add up to eight years to his list of charges, which include up to ten years for robbery and 33 days for probation violation.
Reportedly, the man he allegedly stabbed is out of the hospital. Â There is no date set yet for the Grand Jury Indictment.
Keep an eye out for next week’s Marcolian, which I am being told features interviews of Robison, his lawyer, the man he allegedly stabbed, and other students. Â Hard hitting journalism from the Marcolian? Â You heard it here first.

UPDATE: $152,000 Bond for MC Student
The Marietta Municipal Court has set bond for Thomas Robison at $152,000, according to this Marietta Times article.
This means that Robison (or friends and family of Robison) may pay only have to pay $15,200 to get out of jail prior to his trial. Â However, depending on a October 9 date in court, he may be required to serve 33 days of jail time stemming from a probation violation before being allowed to post bail.
The court also scheduled Robison for a preliminary hearing on October 7.
Marietta College has still made no mention of the crime or their course of action to students, which still worries some students. Â While obviously innocent until proven guilty, prior incidents carried swift response for the college. Â When Robert Walker’s collection of guns and ammo was found in his car, he was swiftly suspended by the college.

UPDATE: Probation Violation Could Delay Bail
Thomas Robison, the MC student who allegedly stabbed a local man over the weekend, was arraigned today at the Marietta Municipal Court.
According to the report from the Marietta Times, Robison violated the terms of his probation, stemming from a OVI (operating a vehicle while intoxicated) charge he picked up last year. Â He received a 33 day suspended sentence, which he would not have had to serve if he had not violated his probation. Â Alongside the first-degree felony robbery charge, he was also charged with first-degree misdemeanor probation violation. Â This means that he may have to serve the 33 days he was originally charged with before he can post bail.
This news should put many students at ease, since the College has not publicly stated their course of action yet. Â But with the potential of 33 days before Robison can post bail, they can now take their time to investigate the situation and formulate a plan of action.
